Radio Massacre International - 17 April 2010
Radio Massacre Int'l is a trio of English musicians (Steve Dinsdale, Duncan Goddard, Gary Houghton) known for extended concerts of epic aural excursions. Performances are largely improvised and veer off into areas dictated by mood, circumstance or whim. RMI's recorded output reflects the diversity and complexity of this work, which is often compared to that of the Berlin-School of cosmic music. But RMI is not simply re-creating the music of this era, rather they further explore and contemplate the expressional mode and the instruments that made it possible - in hopes of realizing new ideas. Radio Massacre Int'l returned to Philadelphia for their fourth performance as part of The Gatherings Concert Series on 17 April 2010. Photos coming soon! | Radio Massacre International |
Robert Rich | Robert Rich - 1 May 2010
Robert Rich's music creates a world of primordial mystery and intense beauty. Electronics merge seamlessly with primitive instruments in lush atmospheres. Above it all float melodies played on bamboo flute and steel guitar. With the fabric of this hypnotic journey, Rich weaves a connection between human cultures both past and present, near and far. With his new CD Ylang Rich pushes his modular synthesizer into new tonal directions. The music involves a blend of faster melodic cycles and percolating rhythms, his usual atmospherics and intricate examples of just intonation. Robert Rich performed this new material when he returned to Philadelphia and The Gatherings Concert Series on 1 May 2010. Photos coming soon! |
Spyra - 15 May 2010
Spyra (aka Wolfram Spyra) is a German synthesist with strong roots in the Berlin-School of Spacemusic. Embracing these essential concepts he creates electronic realizations with a transportative quality. Mixing dreamy electronics with enticing synthetic percussion, Spyra delivers an extremely appealing music. Charged with rhythm and catchy melodies, Spyra's music brings the ideas of classic 1970's spacemusic into the present tense. Spyra made his east-coast concert debut in Philadelphia at The Gatherings Concert Series in March 2007. The CD High Phidelity chronicles his live performances at The Gatherings, STAR'S END Ambient Radio and others | Spyra |

Erik Wøllo | Erik Wøllo - 16 October 2010
Erik Wøllo's roots in progressive rock are evident in his cinematic musical themes. While there is always a sense of warmth to his atmospheric pieces, Wøllo's music resounds with the stark beauty of Norway's wintry landscapes. His musical experience covers a range of styles - from rock and jazz to classical and ambient. He creates music that is both lyrical and rhythmic, focusing on melody and structure. Through his subtle minimalist patterns and nebulous breaths of sound, Wøllo creates concerts of luminous airy music. Erik Wøllo performs material from his latest CD Gateway when he returns to Philadelphia and The Gatherings Concert Series on 16 October 2010 |
